Elderly couple found murdered with throats slit in Banka

Patna: An elderly couple, Kailash Yadav (60) and his wife Samri Devi (55), were brutally murdered in their home in Basantpur village under the Town police station area in Banka district.The couple was found with their throats slit in their cowshed on Friday morning, triggering panic in the area. The couple was reportedly involved in a long-standing land dispute with some individuals in the village. Police suspect that the murder may be linked to the dispute, though investigations are still underway.According to police, Kailash and his wife Samri were sleeping in a cowshed near their house. Late at night, unknown criminals allegedly reached the spot and attacked the sleeping couple with knives.

The assailants slit the throats of both victims with sharp weapons, killing them on the spot. After committing the crime, the criminals fled from the scene. People living nearby remained unaware of the incident during the night.On Friday morning, when nearby residents stepped out for their daily work, they noticed the bodies lying near the cowshed. On approaching the spot, they discovered that the elderly couple had been murdered.

Panic soon spread across the entire village, and a large number of villagers gathered at the crime scene. People immediately informed the police about the incident.After receiving information, Banka sub-divisional police officer Amar Vishwas and Town station house officer Sudhir Kumar reached the spot along with a police team. Officials inspected the crime scene and questioned local residents.“The villagers claimed that the elderly couple had an ongoing land dispute with some people.

It is suspected that the murder was carried out in connection with the same dispute. However, we have not reached any conclusion in the case yet. The real motive behind the murder will come to light only after investigation,” Town SHO Sudhir Kumar said.Considering the seriousness of the case, police also summoned the dog squad and forensic science laboratory (FSL) team. The forensic team cordoned off the area as a crime scene, carried out an investigation and collected several crucial pieces of evidence.The SHO further said that police are questioning people in the vicinity and the investigation is being conducted keeping all possible angles in mind.“The criminals involved in the incident will be identified and arrested soon,” he added.
