Dumka: An elderly couple, on their way to meet their daughter and newborn grandson, were killed when their e-rickshaw was hit by a speeding truck on NH-80 in Sahibganj district late Tuesday.
Four others, who were travelling in the e-rickshaw, were admitted to a hospital with grave injuries. The incident took place near Jamnagar Bengali Para under Rajmahal police station limits close to midnight.Police said the deceased were identified as Aisuddin Sheikh, 55, and his wife Nubahar Bibi, 50. The couple lived in Goldhab Chuar Banutola village and were headed to Rajmahal town. They were extricated from the mangled remains of the e-rickshaw and taken to the Rajmahal Sub-Divisional Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.Three of the four injured were identified as Yasmin Khatun, 26, Tafnara Bibi, 55, and Rahim Sheikh, 45, residents of Rafatulla Tola and Amanat villages. After primary treatment, all were referred to a higher medical centre due to the severity of their injuries. The driver of the truck abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene.Rajmahal MLA Mohammad Tajuddin also visited the hospital to meet the injured and arranged transport for those critical to a higher medical facility.“The bodies of the deceased were sent to Sahibganj Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination. We are trying to identify the driver and owner of the vehicle,” a police officer said.
