Elderly woman killed as ambulance overturns in Kozhikode

An 82-year-old woman died after an ambulance carrying her overturned at Kottamparambu near Peringalam in Kozhikode district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Janaki of Peringalam. The accident occurred around 1.30 a.m., and her body was immediately shifted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for post-mortem.

The emergency vehicle reportedly skidded off the rain-soaked road near a curve and turned turtle multiple times. The driver and two others who accompanied the patient escaped with minor injuries and were admitted to a private hospital.

Police sources said the woman was being taken to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital after experiencing breathing difficulties. Heavy rainfall had made the road slippery and hazardous, they said.
