Ahmedabad: Due to the fierce war between Israel and America against Iran, rumors have spread across India about the non-availability of LPG gas cylinders, especially in Gujarat, when gas agencies stopped online bookings, rumors spread in big cities like Surat, Ahmedabad, Vadodara, and Rajkot. This trend has continued so much that the sales of induction stoves have increased threefold in Surat too. Induction stoves are being shown out of stock on many online shopping platforms. As this trend is increasing on social media, reports are also being received that people are installing induction stoves even though they are no longer needed.
After the government announced control of the distribution of industrial gas cylinders in big cities, rumors have started spreading all over the country that gas cylinders will not be available. As a result, since Wednesday, a scramble for gas cylinders has been seen in Surat city as well.
Now people have started adopting a permanent solution to gas cylinders and that is the reckless purchase of induction stoves (electric fireplaces). Ever since the war broke out between Iran-Israel and various rumors started spreading about the supply of gas cylinders, there has been a huge surge in the sale of induction stoves. Huge purchases of electricity-powered gas stoves and home appliances like pressure cookers and kettles are being seen on both offline and online platforms.

Shibashish Rai, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and MD of Infinity Retail Limited, said that in the last few days, there has been a sudden increase in the demand for electric stoves and our average daily sales rate has increased significantly. Shibashish Rai said without disclosing specific figures that the average daily sales of electric stoves have increased by almost three times compared to normal. He said that customers are buying several induction stoves at once, which was not common earlier. This is a sign of buying as a precaution. An Amazon India spokesperson said that in the last two days, the sale of induction stoves has increased 30 times, while the sale of rice cookers and electric pressure cookers has increased four times. The sale of air fryers and electric kettles has also doubled.
Amidst the rising price of gas cylinders and black marketing, incidents of gas cylinder theft are now coming to light. A burglar who entered the house of a vegetable trader living in Puna in the afternoon to steal gold and silver jewelry also stole a gas cylinder.
According to information received from sources at the Pune police station, Jivan Bachubhai Vaghela, a resident of Ashanagar in Umarwada, earns a living for his family by selling vegetables.
Vaghela, a native of Patdi taluka of Surendranagar, had gone out on business between 1 pm and 4:30 pm on March 9. During this period, burglars targeted his closed house. The burglars, who entered the house by breaking the lock of the main door, forcibly opened the safe. They broke open the locker in the safe and stole gold and silver ornaments worth 1.64 lakh and cash worth Rs 30,000, totaling Rs 1.94 lakh.
Apart from this, the burglars had also stolen a gas cylinder, which is now worth the same as the gold and silver. Jeevan Vaghela had filed a police complaint regarding the theft of a total of Rs 1.95 lakh. Sub-Inspector H. J. Desai has registered a case and is conducting further investigation.
