Elena Rybakina is back on court, but her recent absence had many fans asking questions. The world No. 2 missed Kazakhstan’s Billie Jean King Cup tie against Canada, even though it was played at home in Astana.
Now, she has finally shared the real reason behind that decision. Rybakina had just come through two long and tiring tournaments at Indian Wells and the Miami Open. Both events stretched deep into the schedule for her, leaving very little time for recovery. Instead of jumping straight into another competition, she chose to step away for a short break. That gap ended up being around 20 days before her return at the Stuttgart Open. When she came back in Stuttgart, she looked sharp and won her opening match in straight sets against Diana Shnaider. After the match, she spoke honestly about why she skipped the Billie Jean King Cup.“I played Indian Wells till the end and also Miami was a long tournament, so I needed some time to rest and prepare my body for the clay season,” Elena Rybakina said. “I was tired, and there were some things in the body that started hurting, so I needed to take care.”
She also made it clear that this was not a sudden or personal decision. “I discussed it with my team and the Federation, and we decided I’m not going to play this time. I’m really happy the girls won, and the younger players did very well,” she added. Elena Rybakina injury concern rest decision and strong 2026 season performance with Australian Open win
