Elephant runs amok at Kottiyoor temple in Kerala; no casualties reported

An elephant ran amok at the Kottiyoor temple premises in Kannur, Kerala, on Tuesday amid heavy crowd attending the annual Koottiyoor Vaisakha Mahotsavam.

The elephant Kodumon Sivan brought for the ceremonial procession at Akkare Kottiyoor became agitated and had to be subdued.

The elephant displayed signs of musth-like aggression and attempted to attack another elephant accompanying it. Temple authorities and handlers managed to bring the animal under control after efforts lasting some time. No casualties or injuries were immediately reported.
