Ella Hemmings, a junior libero for the volleyball team at Louisiana State University, was quite surprised at the LSU gym in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. September 3, 2025, was the last day her coaches and colleagues trained; thereafter, they shared the news.

Ella was granted a full scholarship. The minute was merry with cheers. Coaches, staff, and players all showed up right after practice finished. Ella looked startled and grinned as they gathered around her. Clearly, she was quite valuable to the team at that gym.

Right after the final drill on Wednesday evening, September 3, 2025, coach called Ella Hemmings over. The team was still in the gym at LSU’s volleyball facility in Baton Rouge.

The coach spoke about Ella’s hard work, her good energy, and how she makes the team better every day.

Then the coach said, “Ella, you are getting a scholarship.” The room filled with cheers and claps. Ella did not know this was coming. She looked amazed and said, “I didn’t expect this at all. I just try to help my team and play my best.” Her teammates hugged her. The surprise showed how much LSU values her effort.

A defender/libero for LSU volleyball, Ella Hemmings is from Brownsburg, Indiana.

The scholarship is a reward for her steady growth and dedication since joining LSU.
