Elon Musk’s X announces change in creator policy, will ‘ban’ those who share...

Elon Musk’s X (formerly Twitter) is introducing an update in the policy for creators with an aim to curb misinformation on the social media platform. The changes target creators who post AI-generated videos of armed conflicts like wars without disclosing that the content was artificially generated.

Those who break the rules face losing their income from the platform and/or get permanently banned from the creators programme.

What the new rule says

Starting immediately, creators who share undisclosed AI-generated war footage will be suspended from X’s revenue sharing programme for 90 days on their first offence. Repeat offenders face permanent suspension from the programme. The policy was announced by Nikita Bier, X's head of product, on X, framing it as a necessary step to protect the integrity of information during wartime.

X said it will use three methods to identify undisclosed AI-generated content. The first is Community Notes – the platform's existing crowdsourced fact-checking system, the second is metadata analysis wherein the technical data embedded in files will be examined, and the third is using other technical signals built into AI-produced videos. Here’s Nikita Bier full post:Today we are revising our Creator Revenue Sharing policies to maintain authenticity of content on Timeline and prevent manipulation of the program. During times of war, it is critical that people have access to authentic information on the ground. With today’s AI technologies, it is trivial to create content that can mislead people.Starting now, users who post AI-generated videos of an armed conflict—without adding a disclosure that it was made with AI—will be suspended from Creator Revenue Sharing for 90 days. Subsequent violations will result in a permanent suspension from the program. This will be flagged to us by any post with a Community Note or if the content contains meta data (or other signals) from generative AI tools. We will continue to refine our policies and product to ensure X can be trusted during these critical moments. For the millions of creators who earn money through X's Creator Revenue Sharing programme, the message is clear: label AI-generated war content or risk losing your income.
