Jean Silva has spoken publicly for the first time since his tough loss to Diego Lopes in the Noche UFC headliner, admitting that his emotions cost him inside the Octagon. The Brazilian featherweight, nicknamed “Lord,” saw his five-fight UFC winning streak snapped on Saturday night at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Silva had finished all of his opponents inside the distance leading up to this fight, but Lopes halted that run brutally. After weathering a strong opening round, Silva began to find his rhythm in the second before a spinning back elbow from Lopes rocked him. Lopes capitalized on the moment, finishing Silva with strikes at the 4:48 mark of the round.

Speaking on Instagram in Portuguese the following day, Silva was candid in his assessment. “Unfortunately, yesterday the emotion got the better of me,” he said, “I was seeing well in the second round, but I ended up rushing in with everything, just wanting to throw down. I ended up fighting alone. I wasn’t connected with my team, so the responsibility is all mine for this loss.”

The defeat wasn’t just a personal setback. It also continued a difficult stretch for Silva’s gym, The Fighting Nerds. His teammates, Caio Borralho and Mauricio Ruffy, also suffered their first UFC defeats in recent weeks, leaving the trio searching for answers.
