Mohali: Former IA&AS officer and ex-additional deputy comptroller & auditor general of India Onkar Nath has urged the Mohali municipal corporation to clear encroachments from public footpaths, alleging that pedestrians are being forced onto busy roads, increasing accident risks. In a complaint to the MC, Nath claimed footpaths across several sectors have been encroached upon by boundary walls, ramps, lawns, flowerpots and parked vehicles, while some roads lack pedestrian pathways altogether.Citing the Supreme Court’s recent ruling recognising the right to walk as a fundamental right, he demanded a citywide survey, removal of encroachments, development of obstruction-free footpaths, action against illegal parking and preparation of a comprehensive pedestrian infrastructure plan.Nath also sought a dedicated grievance mechanism and an action-taken report from the civic body.
