Star Brentford midfielder Jordan Henderson’s reply to a journalist asking about the altitude issue in Mexico has gone viral, ahead of England’s Round of 16 clash against the co-hosts in the ongoing FIFA World Cup.

The Three Lions got their first taste of the local conditions on Saturday afternoon during a training session at Pumas’ ‘Quarry’ training base, before Thomas Tuchel and Henderson addressed the media at Azteca Stadium.

Asked about his first impressions of the conditions, Henderson said: “You can feel it a little bit. You can feel something. You felt it a little bit even when you just landed and came into the hotel and even walking around, you could feel something."

Azteca Stadium sits around 2,400 metres above sea level. After extensive planning and research, England’s officials chose to fly into Toluca on Friday evening, giving the team two nights to acclimatise before the game.

When asked if he felt the high altitude was ‘unfair’, Henderson responded with a joke, saying: “Well, the Viagra helped!" Watch the video here:

England’s clash with Mexico has been one of the tournament’s most awaited games, with the Three Lions returning to Azteca Stadium 40 years after their iconic Hand of God encounter against Argentina at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

Thomas Tuchel’s team scraped into the Round of 16, with skipper Harry Kane scoring a late brace to seal a 2-1 comeback win against the Democratic Republic of the Congo and book England’s place in Sunday’s clash.

England entered the FIFA World Cup with dreams of ending the nation’s 60-year wait for a major title.

But the English have failed to live up to their billing till now, struggling through the group phase before squeezing past DR Congo.
