Speaking about India-US bilateral ties, Rubio said relations between the two countries were progressing "fantastically".

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying India is rapidly emerging as a global power and that its relationship with the United States has never been stronger.

In an interview with IANS, Rubio described India as a “close partner and ally" of the US and said the personal equation between Prime Minister Modi and US President Donald Trump “couldn’t be closer".

“We’re enormous fans of Prime Minister Modi and what he’s done. He leads a country that’s making incredible gains economically. And it’s really coming into its own as a global power—a country that’s increasingly being counted on in decisions made on the global stage," said Rubio, who visited New Delhi last month.

Highlighting the growing strategic partnership, Rubio said the US wants to play a larger role in supporting India’s rising energy requirements. He backed New Delhi’s strategy of diversifying its energy sources, saying closer India-US cooperation would strengthen long-term energy security.

Speaking about India-US bilateral ties, Rubio said relations between the two countries were progressing “fantastically".

“I think it’s going fantastic. It’s very strong. We had a great meeting with the Prime Minister and the President at the G7, and we’re hoping to finalise a trade deal. We’re on the last inches of getting it done, and it’s very positive," he said.

Rubio also said the two countries were preparing for the next meeting of the Quad grouping.

“We look forward to re-engaging again in another Quad meeting very soon, which India will host. I look forward to returning before the end of the year," he said.

The US Secretary of State also revealed that President Donald Trump is expected to visit India early next year.

“We’re working towards sometime early next year to have the President come, and I think it’s very positive. India is such a close partner and ally of the United States, and the relationship between the Prime Minister and the President couldn’t be closer, which I think is really important in diplomacy," Rubio added.
