Fred Vasseur hits back at rivals over Ferrari’s rapid starts, insisting the team simply got it right while others now push for rule changes to catch up.

Ferrari have nailed one thing in 2026: race starts. And now, everyone else wants a say.
With rivals calling for changes to level the playing field, team boss Fred Vasseur has had enough.
Ferrari Saw It Coming
The irony? Ferrari flagged this issue a year ago.
Back in 2025, Vasseur raised concerns with the FIA about how the new start procedures could play out.
“We already changed the rule of the start massively with the five-second story," Vasseur lamented to Sky Sports.
“One year ago, I went to the FIA. I raised my hand when discussing the starting procedure to say, ‘Guys, it will be difficult’.
The response? Design your car to the rules and don’t expect the rules to change. (Very Christian Horner-coded)
“The reply was clear, that we have to design the car fitting with the regulation and not to change the regulation fitting with the car.
Ferrari listened, while others seemed not to.
And now that Scuderia’s lightning launches are turning heads, rivals like McLaren and Mercedes have reportedly raised safety concerns.
But Vasseur isn’t buying any of it, and believes that the Scuderia shouldn’t be punished for simply doing a better job.
“We designed the car fitting with the regulations. The change of the five seconds, the blue light story, didn’t help us at all – but I think at one stage, enough is enough," the Ferrari boss exclaimed.
Ferrari Planning Another Major Upgrade
While the debate rages on, the Prancing Horses are already looking ahead — with a major upgrade package for the SF-26 set to be evaluated at Monza before the Miami Grand Prix.
So far, Mercedes have set the pace in 2026, with their W17 holding a clear advantage, especially in straight-line speed– thanks to a powerful engine package. (We see you smirking, Toto)
Ferrari, however, aren’t far off.
Having deliberately begun 2026 with a more conservative base car, the Scurderia are now ready to get aggressive.
