With the Noida Authority raising fresh objections to the proposed Sports City in Sector 150, homebuyers and residents have threatened to launch a protest over the move they claim is delaying the project. They say the delay is in violation of Supreme Court directives to approve the project’s layout plan within 45 days.

Sector 150 is also where 26-year-old software engineer Yuvraj Mehta drowned in January after his car fell into a water-filled pit — an incident widely seen as an infrastructural failure. Residents had staged protests at the time, calling such lapses systemic.

In an order dated November 24, 2025, the Supreme Court directed the Noida Authority to lift the ban on the Sector 150 Sports City project and approve its layout plan within 45 days. While the Authority subsequently removed the restriction in a board meeting, it has yet to clear the layout plan.

During a hearing on March 11 this year, the court granted the Authority a final opportunity to approve the plan, directing that the process be completed before the next hearing on April 8, 2026.

“The court’s intervention had rekindled hope among residents across Noida’s four Sports City projects. Many of us have been waiting for years to secure legal ownership of our homes. But the Authority’s latest objections across multiple projects have once again pushed our fate into uncertainty," said Nishant Kumar, a homebuyer.

He added that residents are planning a protest. “We will wait till April 8. If the Authority continues to harass us, we will call for a mass, yet peaceful protest," he said.

Homebuyers also pointed out that in Sector 152, a key component of the Sports City plan — a proposed 50,000-seat stadium — remains unbuilt. They allege that the project has been hindered by the Authority’s inability to acquire 25 acres of land, effectively stalling progress.

According to residents, similar challenges persist in Sectors 78 and 79, where nearly half of the required land has yet to be acquired. The Public Accounts Committee (PAC) had earlier directed the Authority to address these issues, but illegal encroachments on designated land continue to impede development, said Manmohan Sharma, another homebuyer.

Meanwhile, in Sector 150 SC-02, the Authority has raised new objections nearly four months after the Supreme Court’s initial order — an action likely to further delay relief for homebuyers in that project.

Reacting to the developments, another homebuyer, Jitendra, said many had invested years of savings and their patience was wearing thin.

“We saw a ray of hope after the Supreme Court’s order and believed ownership rights would finally be granted," he said. “But with ongoing objections and administrative delays, that hope is fading. The government must intervene, as officials appear unable to resolve the issue."
