Enraged over power outage, woman slaps maintenance employee 23 times in Noida society

NOIDA: Two people were arrested for allegedly assaulting a maintenance employee following a dispute over the unavailability of generator backup during a power outage at a residential society in Noida's Sector 74.According to police, the incident took place in the early hours of Saturday at Supertech Cape Town Society. A power outage occurred at around 3 am, and residents reportedly did not receive electricity through the society's generator backup system. The disruption triggered anger among some residents, leading to a confrontation at the society's maintenance office. During the altercation, the maintenance employee was allegedly slapped 23 times.Police said that society resident Jyoti Mishra and her friend, Amit, went to the maintenance office to complain about the lack of backup power. An argument reportedly broke out between the duo and a maintenance employee identified as Kamal. The verbal altercation soon escalated, and the two allegedly assaulted the staff member.A video of the incident, circulated on social media, shows Jyoti and Amit arguing with Kamal at the office, even as other people looked on.

At one point Amit restrains Kamal, and Jyoti begins hitting Kamal on his head and shoulder. Some men move forward and try to diffuse the matter calmly. Jyoti and Amit continue to argue with Kamal and the men, and she hits Kamal a couple more times before leaving the spot. The incident created tension within the society and prompted other staff members to alert the police. A team from Sector 113 police station reached the spot and initiated an inquiry into the matter.Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Rakesh Pratap Singh said the police took immediate cognisance of the incident and registered appropriate action against the accused. Both Jyoti Mishra and Amit were arrested on Saturday and produced before a court, following which further legal proceedings were carried out.Police officials said statements of those involved were recorded as part of the investigation. Authorities are also examining available evidence related to the incident.Residents of the society expressed concern over the incident and stressed the need for resolving grievances through proper channels rather than resorting to violence. Police have urged citizens to maintain peace and seek lawful remedies for disputes, warning that acts of assault and disorderly conduct will invite strict legal action.
