If you didn’t get the memo yet, the cool girls have officially clocked out of the hustle and bustle era. The 5 a.m. grind, the glorified burnout, the exhausting productivity loops? All out.
Instead, they have entered the soft girl era, where mindfulness matters more than milestones. And the mornings are no longer battlegrounds, but sacred spaces that foster peace. If you are still stuck in the girlboss era, rushing through your days and years, and just want to slow down and embrace life as it is, here are five mindful morning routines to ease into your soft girl era.
No phone, no chaos
For most of us, the first instinct upon waking up is to reach for the phone, check the texts, socials, and email.
And we are all guilty. We know that it's a terrible habit, and we end up losing time and energy. But you can choose not to walk into the chaos. For the first 30 minutes after waking, don’t look at your phone. Resist the urge; instead, open the window, let the light seep in. Enjoy the fresh air, and do breathing exercises.
Take your own sweet time, no rush.
Hydration
Cool girls don’t reach for Morning Joe anymore. Instead, they go with fluids that truly hydrate them.
Drink a glass of warm water. You can also add a few drops of lemon juice to kickstart your metabolism. If you are a fan of herbal teas, savour it. Let the warmth awaken your body without rush. This simple act can both hydrate and signal a peaceful transition from sleep. Also, staying hydrated is crucial.
Stretching
In the morning, you can opt for gentle movements instead of intense workouts. Practice 10–15 minutes of yoga. If you are a pilates girl, go for it, but keep it light.
Even a stroll may help. You can also do soft stretching exercises like the cat-cow poses or neck rolls right in bed or on the floor. The aim is to connect you mindfully to your body.
Gratitude journaling
If no one told you, consider this a sign. Gratitude journaling can be miraculous. Set aside 3-5 minutes for journaling. Think about three things you're thankful for or a positive intention. Instead of diving straight away into the to-do list for the day, ask yourselves, what is the one priority that truly matters to you? What is one thing that you wish to do better today? What would make today gentle? These reflections can set the tone for the day.
Self-care
Self-love and self-care go hand-in-hand. Starting your day with something that soothes you is great. For instance, if you are religious, light the lamp and pray for a few minutes. If you really enjoy your skincare routine, do it. Put on some music, and let the eye masks soak in! Or simply chant the positive affirmations to kickstart your day. Find a ritual that you truly enjoy and engage in it.
