Enumeration phase of SIR begins from Monday

Vijayawada: The Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls will begin in Andhra Pradesh from June 15. Thousands of field-level officials will undertake door-to-door verification across the state under the supervision of Election Commission of India (EC).The SIR exercise, aimed at preparing accurate and updated electoral rolls, will begin with booth level officers (BLOs) visiting households and verifying voter details from Monday. The EC has instructed district election authorities to ensure that the process is carried out in a transparent manner without causing inconvenience to genuine voters. The training programmes for BLOs and other election personnel has been completed and arrangements have been made for distribution of forms and voter verification material.

Electoral registration officers (EROs) and assistant electoral registration officers (AEROs) have been assigned the responsibility of monitoring the progress and resolving issues during the revision process. The BLOs will visit every household under their jurisdiction as part of the intensive verification. During the visit, voters will have to provide the required information and supporting documents to establish their eligibility. Chief electoral officer Vivek Yadav has urged voters to cooperate with the BLOs and keep necessary documents ready to avoid delays.

The revision process will focus on identifying and correcting errors in electoral rolls, including deletion of names of deceased persons, removal of duplicate entries, updating addresses of shifted voters, and inclusion of eligible new voters. The EC has also involved booth level agents (BLAs) appointed by recognised political parties to support the process. BLAs will work along with election officials by bringing voter-related issues to the notice of authorities and assisting in ensuring transparency. The SIR will cover all assembly constituencies in the state. “The objective is not only to clean up the electoral rolls but also to ensure that no eligible voter is left out,” said Yadav. He said the EC has also launched awareness measures urging citizens to participate actively in the SIR process. Voters can check their details and access electoral services through the EC’s online voter services platform, he added.SIR EXERCISEBooth level officers to undertake house-to-house visits from June 15 to July 2446,397 BLOs to map 4,16,16,061 electors during the SIR process68,868 booth level agents appointed by political parties to assist electors during the enumeration phaseRationalisation of polling stations to be completed by July 14Publication of draft electoral rolls on July 21Schedule for filing claims and objections from July 21 to Aug 20Notice/disposal of objections from July 21 to Sep 18Publication of final electoral rolls on Sep 22
