EOW traps two MPEB engineers for accepting Rs 25k bribe in Jabalpur

Bhopal: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) arrested two senior civil engineers of Madhya Pradesh Poorva Kshetra Vidyut Vitran Company Ltd (MPEB) in Jabalpur on Monday for allegedly accepting a Rs 25,000 bribe from a contractor for clearing a pending payment of Rs 10 lakh.The accused have been identified as Prahlad Marskole, Additional Chief Engineer (Civil), and Chandrashekhar Mehra, Executive Engineer (Civil), Jabalpur Circle.According to EOW, complainant Ashok Kumar Dwivedi of Gupteshwar, Jabalpur, alleged that the officers demanded Rs 50,000 to clear a pending payment of Rs 10 lakh for the construction of a junior engineer’s office at Bachaiya village in Katni district.

Marskole had sought Rs 30,000 and Mehra Rs 20,000.During verification, EOW confirmed the complaint and found that Mehra had already taken Rs 5,000 as part payment. A trap was laid on Monday at their offices in Rampur and Jabalpur. Mehra was caught accepting Rs 15,000, the second instalment, while Marskole was caught taking Rs 10,000 in cash.A case has been registered against both under Section 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. Further investigation is underway.
