Chief Minister MK Stalin and Leader of the Opposition Edappadi K Palaniswami have turned Tamil Nadu’s political turf into a verbal boxing ring, hurling “bye-byes” and barbs over chants, Delhi visits, and Union Minister Amit Shah’s doorstep diplomacy.
The exchange began after Edappadi Palaniswami, during his ‘Makkalai Kaapom, Thamizhagathai Meetpom’ campaign, popularised the chant “bye-bye Stalin” among his supporters. Speaking at a rally in Cuddalore, he also responded to Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin’s allegation that he had secretly visited Amit Shah’s residence.
“Udhayanidhi Stalin said that I knocked on Amit Shah’s door. What is wrong in it? He is the Home Minister. You are doing nothing and not allowing someone who can do as well. At least you should do something to the people or else if only we knock on someone’s door only Tamil Nadu people can benefit. Since we knocked, funds for 100 days scheme was received and caste survey issue was resolved,” said Palaniswami, defending his engagement with the Union government.
Chief Minister Stalin, however, dismissed the AIADMK leader’s claims and responded with a counterattack. “He is saying tata and bye-bye to me. Honourable Palaniswami who lost 10 times should know that Tamil Nadu people have been saying tata, bye-bye to you since 2019. In this election, they will say good-bye to you forever,” said Stalin during a public address.
He further accused Palaniswami of compromising his party for personal gain. “You went to Delhi and pawned AIADMK for your selfishness and to save your family from raid. It was Udhayanidhi who first brought this out about how you changed several cars and went there. Without shame you are asking what is wrong in knocking on Amit Shah’s home door! What reason did you do so? Wasn’t it to protect your home from raid and pawn AIADMK!”
