Donald Trump China Visit: US President Donald Trump’s son Eric Trump joined his father on a state visit to Beijing as a company linked to the Trump family explores a deal with a Chinese chipmaker firm that US lawmakers have previously flagged over alleged links to the Chinese military.

Although Eric Trump is not part of the Trump administration, he co-leads family business and the Trump Organisation, prompting renewed scrutiny over the intersection of the Trump family’s business interests and official government travel, the New York Times reported.

However, the Trump Organization has maintained that Eric Trump is accompanying the US President solely in a personal capacity and will not conduct business during the trip.

“Eric is deeply proud of his father and the accomplishments of this term, and is attending in a personal capacity as a supportive son. He does not have business ventures in China nor plans on doing business in China. He will not be participating in private meetings, but will instead stand alongside the President to mark this historic occasion." the organistaion said in a statement as reported by the news outlet.

Still, questions have resurfaced because of the Trump Organisation’s past and potential future business interests in China. Public financial disclosures have shown that Trump owns dozens of trademarks in China covering hotels, spas and related services. Before Trump’s first term in 2016, the company explored several hotel and real estate ventures in China, though none materialised.

During Trump’s first term, the company pledged to avoid foreign deals while he was in office. However, in his second term, after easing some self-imposed ethics restrictions, the Trump Organisation has pursued a series of international projects, including developments in the Middle East and Tbilisi.

As per a report by Financial Times, Eric Trump’s visit comes as a company connected to the Trump family’s crypto and financial ventures explores a potential partnership with Chinese chipmaker Nano Labs.

Las Vegas-based fintech Alt5 Sigma, which has financial links to the Trump family’s World Liberty Financial crypto business, last month signed a memorandum of understanding with Nano Labs to build data centres in the US.

Eric Trump was designated an “observer" on Alt5 Sigma’s board last year, while Zach Witkoff – son of Trump envoy Steve Witkoff – chairs the board.

Nano Labs has previously drawn scrutiny from US lawmakers. Members of the House panel on the Chinese Communist Party and Republican senators reportedly warned the Securities and Exchange Commission that the company represented a “high-risk" entity allegedly linked to Chinese military and Communist Party interests, according to the report.

The US President landed in Beijing aboard Air Force One late Wednesday for a two-day summit, accompanied by several top business leaders, including Jensen Huang and Elon Musk, underscoring Trump’s push for major commercial deals during the visit.
