Ericsson
, the Swedish telecom equipment manufacturer, has initiated a workforce reduction affecting approximately 100 Canada-based technical employees, as reported by the Globe and Mail. The company cited a need for cost streamlining and a strategic consolidation of its global operations. Nathan Gibson, a spokesperson for Ericsson, reportedly told the Globe and Mail that the layoffs will bring the company's Canadian network management services team in line with its global operations. This will allow them to leverage common tools and processes. The affected employees were notified on September 8 of the decision, and their employment will conclude on October 31. They are set to receive severance packages and career transition assistance. This action aligns with the company's prior statements in its second-quarter results, where it indicated that restructuring charges for 2025 would likely remain at an elevated level. Reuters has been unable to independently confirm the report, as Ericsson has not yet responded to a request for comment. The Stockholm-based company has previously stated that it expects restructuring charges to remain high throughout 2025.
