ESPN NFL Draft analyst Matt Miller is fighting back after a devastating car accident in Missouri left him with life-threatening injuries, including the amputation of his left arm.

Miller, 42, was airlifted to Mercy Hospital following the crash on June 17, where his Ford Bronco crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a semi-truck head-on. He publicly shared his condition on June 23, and on Friday underwent surgery to determine whether his shoulder can support a prosthetic arm.

What happened to Matt Miller and how serious are his injuries?

The crash happened around 4 p.m. on Highway 71 in Jasper County. According to a police report obtained by local Fox affiliate KOAM, Matt Miller's 2023 Ford Bronco crossed the centre line and hit the driver's side of a semi-truck.

The truck driver tried to swerve but both vehicles ended up off the south side of the road.

Miller was airlifted to Mercy Hospital, where doctors performed emergency surgery. He lost his left arm in what he described as a life-saving amputation. "I sustained significant injuries, including multiple fractures and broken ribs," he wrote on X. "I also underwent a life-saving amputation of my left arm. While I have a long road ahead, I'm focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time."

On Friday, Miller posted an update ahead of another procedure. "Today's surgery is a big one," he wrote. "To find out if my shoulder can be reconstructed in order to support a prosthetic arm. Your continued thoughts and prayers are so appreciated."Despite everything, Miller has already told people he plans to get back to ESPN for the 2027 NFL Draft cycle. "I look forward to continuing my recovery and getting back to ESPN to talk football," he said. His ESPN colleagues responded quickly. Adam Schefter posted, "Best wishes for a speedy recovery. We are pulling for you!" Mina Kimes added, "Ah, Matt I'm so sorry to hear this and so relieved to hear you pulled through. We're all behind you."

Has a GoFundMe been started for Matt Miller?

Yes. The Miller family launched a GoFundMe on June 25 to help cover the mountain of costs that come with an injury this severe. As of this writing, more than $37,000 has already been raised."Matt remains in the ICU, where he continues to make inspiring progress each day," his family wrote on the page. "The months ahead will include extensive medical care, rehabilitation, travel to appointments, prosthetic planning, and countless unexpected expenses."His family also made sure to note that, in typical fashion, Miller has not lost his sense of humour. He's apparently already joking that he plans to become "the best one-armed bartender ever."The GoFundMe is open to donations of any size, and the family says even sharing the page makes a difference.
