Indore: Moderate rain brought relief to several parts of Indore on Monday evening after residents endured a hot and humid day under clear skies. The showers, which arrived during the evening hours, brought down the temperature and eased the discomfort caused by high humidity that persisted throughout the day. After several days of overcast conditions, the city woke up to bright sunshine on Monday. The clear skies pushed the maximum temperature to 33.8 degrees Celsius, 2 degrees above normal, while humidity remained high, making outdoor conditions uncomfortable. The minimum temperature settled at 22.2 degrees Celsius, 1 degree below normal.India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the temperature was 26.6 degrees Celsius with 80% relative humidity at 8:30 am.
By 5:30 pm, it stood at 33.4 degrees Celsius, while humidity stood at 60% before the rain cooled the weather, dropping it to around 27 degrees Celsius. The weather office recorded 2.2 mm of rainfall during the 24-hour period ending at 8:30 am on Monday. Seasonal rainfall has now reached 295.8 mm, which is 105.6 mm above the normal mark for this time of the monsoon. The IMD attributed the prevailing weather to several active synoptic systems across the country. A depression over south Jharkhand and adjoining north interior Odisha moved west-north-westwards on Monday and is expected to travel across Jharkhand, north Chhattisgarh and adjoining eastern Madhya Pradesh over the next 24 hours. In addition, the seasonal monsoon trough continues to extend from southwest Rajasthan to the east-central Bay of Bengal through Madhya Pradesh, while an offshore trough from south Gujarat to the north Keralam coast and a persistent wind shear zone are supporting widespread monsoon activity. The weather office said no significant change in the overall weather pattern is expected in Indore and adjoining districts. It forecast intermittent light to moderate rain over the coming days.
