An Evergreen Marine cargo vessel was struck by an unknown object while transiting near the Omani coast but has safely exited the Strait of Hormuz without any injuries or disruption to its voyage, the Taiwanese shipping company said on Friday.

In a statement filed with the Taiwan Stock Exchange, Evergreen said the incident occurred on Thursday when the Ever Lovely, operated by its Singapore subsidiary, was about 3.6 nautical miles off Khawr Naiwah, Oman.

Bridge Damaged, Crew Safe

The company said the starboard side of the ship’s bridge was hit by an unidentified object, causing damage to the bridge windows.

An inspection by the crew found no injuries, while the vessel, its cargo and all crew members remained safe.

Evergreen added that the ship’s main engine and navigation systems continued to function normally and that the vessel remained seaworthy throughout the incident.

Ship Safely Clears Hormuz

The company confirmed that the Ever Lovely has since safely departed the Strait of Hormuz.

It also said the vessel had been following the recommended transit route issued by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) while passing through the strategically important waterway.

Follows UKMTO Alert

The announcement came a day after UKMTO reported that a cargo ship had experienced a suspected attack while attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz close to the Omani coast.

Authorities have not identified the object that struck the vessel or said whether the two incidents are linked.

The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s busiest maritime chokepoints, handling a significant share of global oil exports. Security in the region has remained under close watch following recent tensions involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
