Former Minister Gudivada Amarnath on Thursday alleged that the death of youngster Gade Sai Krishna in the hands of Vijayawada police was the consequence of the ‘Red Book Constitution’ being implemented in the State.
Addressing media in Visakhapatnam, Mr Amarnath demanded that Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, Minister Nara Lokesh and Home Minister V Anitha also be named as accused in the case, holding them politically accountable for the functioning of the police machinery and the collapse of law and order.
The YSR Congress Party leader said the registration of a criminal case against Circle Inspector Nagaraju establishes that Sai Krishna did not survive police custody. He said the government is attempting to sacrifice a single officer while shielding senior police officials, including the Police Commissioner, the DGP and others connected with the incident. He demanded that all those responsible be brought under the ambit of the investigation.
Questioning the credibility of the ongoing inquiry, Amarnath said appointing an SP-rank officer to investigate officials senior to him is nothing but an eye wash measure intended to dilute the case. He asserted that only a CBI investigation can uncover the complete truth and deliver justice to Sai Krishna’s mother.
He also demanded that the entire CCTV footage from Krishna Lanka Police Station be released before the public. Alleging that Andhra Pradesh is witnessing a collapse of constitutional governance, Mr Amarnath said police have no authority to subject any individual to third-degree torture, irrespective of the allegations against them.
He urged the government to order a CBI probe immediately and ensure that every individual responsible for Sai Krishna’s death is prosecuted under the law.
