Fake IPS officer arrested after ruckus at Ahmedabad railway station

Ahmedabad: A traffic jam outside Ahmedabad railway station ended with a man in handcuffs. The man allegedly posed as an IPS officer, threatened railway police personnel and assaulted a constable during a confrontation outside Ahmedabad railway station.A day later, railway police arrested him and booked him under multiple sections of the BNS.The incident occurred on Monday night amid heavy congestion outside the railway station, where traffic personnel were managing vehicle movement following the arrival of the Tejas Express and ongoing station redevelopment work.According to the FIR, the trouble began when a passenger travelling in a car became irritated by the traffic bottleneck near the station exit and called a constable who was regulating vehicles at the spot. When the constable explained that congestion had built up because of traffic diversions and the rush of vehicles leaving the station, the passenger allegedly abused him.Police said the situation escalated further when the man questioned why the constable had not saluted him.As vehicles piled up behind the car, police personnel asked the driver to move the vehicle to the side and allow traffic to pass. Instead, the passenger allegedly stepped out of the car, pushed the constable, grabbed his uniform and created a commotion in the middle of the road.

According to investigators, the man then identified himself as ‘IPS John Daniel' and allegedly threatened to use his influence with senior officers to get the constable transferred. Police said he also recorded videos of the confrontation on his mobile phone during the altercation. The constable and another policeman present at the scene later lodged a complaint with railway police.During the investigation, police verified the accused’s claims and found that he was not an IPS officer. He was subsequently arrested and questioned about his identity, background, and activities.Ahmedabad Railway Police have registered offences related to impersonating a public servant, criminal intimidation, obstructing and assaulting a public servant while on duty, and using abusive or obscene language in a public place.
