New Delhi: The news about the potential lockdown in India is one of the recent rumors that began to circulate through social media and messaging services rapidly. Such rumours set people in confusion and fear because people recalled how strict the lockdown was during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Government of India has, however, come out clearly and given word that these rumours are entirely false.
Union Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri has denied the possibility of a national lockdown strongly. Such a proposal is not on the cards of the government, according to him. This comment was made following the speculation that began by many people due to the limitations due to global issues, including the strain within the global markets and the concern amid the fuel supply.
The minister also encouraged people not to panic but instead to remain calm. He stressed that rumour-mongering is not responsible and might cause unjustified panic among people. In his opinion, people are to believe the official information and not share unproven news.
The prevailing situation in the world, particularly concerning energy supply and international conflicts, was one of the major causes of such rumours. There are those who thought that these difficulties might result in a scarcity of basic goods, which may cause the state to restrict them. The government has however explained that it is very much looking into the situation and ensuring that the much needed supplies such as fuel, gas, and other valuable goods are not cut at any cost.
The officials have also assured that India is in the right place to meet any challenge that can be brought about by world developments. They told them that the nation enjoys good systems to control supply chains and stability. This implies that no form of lockdown or restriction is required at the moment.
The government also opined that some of its previous statements and talks were not understood or interpreted properly, and hence the dissemination of the false information. Governments have again clarified that they have no intention of limiting citizens or bringing down economic activities.
People are also being cautioned by experts and officials on the dangers of fake news. The modern digital era makes information transmission extremely quick, and even minor rumours have the potential to cause panic if individuals fail to fact-check. The government has challenged the citizens to make use of only trusted news and official announcements.
Finally, India is not due to a lockdown, and the fact that such rumors exist on the Internet is unfounded. The situation is under the control of the government, and all the necessary services are running as usual. Individuals are encouraged to be calm, not to mislead others, and to be informed by credible sources.
