Fake overseas job offer costs Bageshwar youth Rs 3.2 lakh

Bageshwar: A 25-year-old man from Kapkot was allegedly duped of Rs 3.2 lakh by cyberfrauds who promised him a job in UK, sent him a fake joining letter and collected money for visa processing, health insurance, VFS Global fees and a foreign salary account, police said on Wednesday.Mahesh Singh Mehra, a resident of Purkuni village, told police he saw a Facebook advertisement for AZARAK Limited UK in March and was later contacted on Telegram by a man identifying himself as Rohan Kumar. According to the FIR, Mehra submitted his Aadhaar card, photograph, police clearance certificate and biodata before being told he had been selected for a job with Amazon UK.Police said the accused later introduced another person, Dustin Bradshaw, as a visa expert and collected payments between April and May.

When no visa or travel documents were provided, Mehra lodged a complaint on National Cyber Crime Portal before approaching Kapkot police.A case was registered against Rohan and Dustin under IT Act section 66D and BNS section 318(4). Circle officer Mahesh Sharma said police were examining bank accounts, emails, Telegram IDs and other digital evidence to trace the accused and check if the fraud was linked to a larger cybercrime network.
