Fake WhatsApp account misusing BDA Commissioner’s name to swindle money; Cybercrime police register FIR

The Central Division Cybercrime Police have registered an FIR against unknown persons for misusing the name and photograph of the Commissioner of the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) and created fake WhatsApp accounts to swindle money.

According to the complaint lodged by BDA Commissioner Manivannan P. on Thursday, unknown persons used international phone numbers to impersonate the Commissioner. They allegedly used the Commissioner’s name and profile picture to send messages to officials and acquaintances, seeking money under false pretences.
