US President Donald Trump on Tuesday rejected media reports suggesting that talks between Washington and Tehran had broken down, insisting that negotiations are underway.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump described reports claiming that the two sides had stopped communicating as “false and erroneous."

“Fake News Reports that the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the U.S.A., stopped speaking a few days ago are false and erroneous," Trump wrote.

The US president said discussions between the two countries had continued uninterrupted in recent days. “The conversations between us have been going on continuously, including four days ago, three days ago, two days ago, one day ago, and today," he said.

While acknowledging uncertainty over the outcome of the negotiations, Trump reiterated his call for Tehran to reach an agreement with Washington. “Where they lead, one never knows, but as I told Iran, it’s time, one way or another, for you to make a deal," he said.

Trump also criticised Iran’s leadership, saying the issue had remained unresolved for decades and could not be allowed to continue indefinitely.

The remarks come amid conflicting signals over the status of US-Iran diplomacy after reports emerged suggesting that Tehran had suspended talks with Washington after Israel launched an offensive in Lebanon.
