Families Went All Out For A Fairytale Wedding. The Only Problem? Siya-Ketan Weren't A Love Story

When Ketan Agarwal and Siya Goyal got engaged in February this year, it was not love at first sight. In fact, it was not even close to a love story. Their families were planning a grand Indian wedding and wanted to make the occasion unforgettable. A pre-wedding photoshoot in Bali was also planned.

But there was one problem — it was an arranged match, and months later, Ketan would allegedly be killed by Siya and her lover, Chetan Chaudhary. Both Siya and Chetan have been arrested and remanded to police custody till June 29.

Ketan Agarwal-Siya Goyal Match

Ketan’s family runs a well-known construction business in Pimpri-Chinchwad near Pune, and the 26-year-old was a director in the family’s real-estate firm.

His family found a match in Siya Goyal, whose family is involved in the dry fruits business. A commerce student, Siya was also trying her hand at a bakery venture.

The couple got engaged in February and the wedding was scheduled for November.

Pre-Wedding Photoshoot In Bali

The beaches of Bali were supposed to be the backdrop for a pre-wedding photoshoot. Besides the couple, two other people were also scheduled to travel with them.

But when they reached the airport, Ketan’s passport was found missing, forcing the trip to be cancelled.

“They were leaving for Bali on June 6. Four people were travelling together, but only Ketan’s passport got stolen. Because of that, he had to return from the airport. We did not take it seriously then as to how only Ketan’s passport got stolen," Ketan’s father Vishal Agarwal said.

Police later said that Siya had deliberately hidden Ketan’s passport.

“In our probe, it has come to light that Siya hid Ketan’s passport to avoid going to Bali with him," Pune Rural Superintendent of Police Sandeep Singh Gill said.

Big Fat Indian Wedding

The families were preparing for a lavish wedding in Rajasthan. The ceremony was scheduled for November in Udaipur.

A palace in Jaipur had been reportedly booked for Rs 17 crore and two private aircraft arranged to fly guests.

While both families believed Ketan and Siya were a perfect match, police say Siya was unhappy with the wedding as she was in a relationship with Chetan Chaudhary.

Ketan’s mother said she had accepted Siya as her daughter-in-law.

“She betrayed me and lied many times. She came to our house several times. During dinner, I told her that you can’t drink here and I won’t send you to parties. Still she was drinking. Her family did not tell us about this," she said.

“There was nothing suspicious; we didn’t have a single doubt. I met her many times, and we went shopping and out for dinner together frequently, yet it never crossed our minds that she could be this kind of person," she added.

The Murder Plot

According to police, Siya first visited Lohagad Fort with Ketan on May 31, where investigators believe she may have conceived the idea of killing him and passing it off as an accident.

The couple returned to the fort on June 14. According to Ketan’s father, Chetan Chaudhary was also present and an attempt was allegedly made on Ketan’s life.

“On June 14, when they went to the fort, she pushed him due to which Ketan saved himself by holding a tree. When Ketan survived, Siya claimed there was a snake and that’s why she pushed him," Vishal Agarwal said.

Police say the plan was finally executed on June 18.

“On June 18, she again told Ketan to go to Lohagad Fort. She said her friends wanted to celebrate her birthday there. We agreed because it was her birthday. The police probe found that Chetan reached Lohagad on a two-wheeler. They both hit Ketan with an object and then pushed him off the cliff. After that, Chetan left the place and Siya alerted people," Vishal Agarwal said.

He said the family would have cancelled the wedding had Siya simply refused to marry Ketan.

Ketan’s mother has demanded the death penalty for Siya and Chetan.

The Instagram Post

Hours after Ketan’s death, Siya posted an emotional message on Instagram mourning him.

“You left me on my birthday. You left when we were so close to getting married. I still can’t understand why you did this to me. I had dreams, questions I’ll never get answers to. Why did you leave me when I loved you so much? Rest in peace," she wrote.
