A family of three and their pet dog died in Faridabad's Green Field Colony after an air conditioner in their home caught fire and burst, filling the house with smoke.
The victims were identified as Sachin Kapoor, his wife Rinku Kapoor, and their daughter Sujan Kapoor. Police said the family died of suffocation, and their bodies have been sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death.
Similar incidents have been reported in recent months. In March, a man in Delhi's Krishna Nagar area died when his AC compressor exploded. In May, one person was killed and another injured in Uttar Pradesh after a compressor blast during servicing.
The use of air conditioners in India has surged in recent years as temperatures rise. A report by the International Energy Agency (IEA) last year noted that the country's growing dependence on ACs and the resulting power consumption will soon outpace many other nations.
