Farah Khan opens up on welcoming triplets at 43 with Shirish Kunder and post-pregnancy weight struggles: 'It took me 4-5 years to lose baby weight'
In a candid and heartwarming appearance on Shekhar Suman’s popular talk show Shekhar Tonite, iconic filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan opened up about her deeply personal journey to motherhood.
Reflecting on her decision to undergo IVF treatment in her early 40s, Farah shared her surprise at welcoming triplets at the age of 43, an experience she describes as both completely unexpected and an absolute blessing. The 'Happy New Year' director didn't hold back as she discussed the immense physical challenges that followed, admitting she envies modern celebrities who bounce back instantly whereas it took her nearly five years to shed her post-pregnancy weight.
Farah Khan speaks about post-pregnancy weight loss
During the conversation, Farah admitted that one aspect of motherhood she struggled with was losing her pregnancy weight. She said she often feels amazed when she sees actresses returning to their pre-pregnancy fitness within a short period after giving birth. Sharing her experience, she said, “I hate jab main dekhti hu heroines aur celebs aur baby weight, matlab 2 mahine ke andar they are back to their…mere ko toh 4-5 saal lag gaye baby weight nikalne mein.
” ("I hate it when I see actresses and celebrities shedding their baby weight. Within just two months, they're back to their old shape, whereas it took me four to five years to lose my pregnancy weight.")Farah also recalled how becoming a parent completely changed her family's life. She shared that after the birth of her children, the family moved into a bigger house, describing her children as a blessing.“Bacche hone ke baad we bought a bigger house so my children were really a blessing.”
("After my children were born, we bought a bigger house, so they truly turned out to be a blessing in our lives.")Speaking about her IVF journey, Farah explained that while she had expected to have one child, having triplets was completely unexpected. “3 ka anticipate nahi kiya tha lekin maine socha tha 1 toh hoga hi…I was 42 when I was trying IVF, 43 when I delivered toh mera woh daayra bhi paar ho chuka tha.” ("I never anticipated having three babies, but I was certain I'd have at least one.
I was 42 when I underwent IVF and 43 when I gave birth, so I had already crossed what is generally considered the usual age for becoming a mother.

Farah Khan shares a fun story
Farah also spoke about family life with husband Shirish Kunder and their children. She playfully revealed that Shirish and their son Czar are now almost the same height, making it difficult for her to tell who has entered the bedroom at night.Recalling the amusing situation, she said, “Woh aur mera beta ab same height ke hai.
Jab raat ko main so rahi hoti hoon ya bedroom mein koi aata hai toh I can’t make out ki Czar aaya hai ki Shirish. And if the person comes and hugs me then I know it’s my son.” ("Shirish and my son are now the same height. At night, when I'm asleep and someone walks into the bedroom, I can't tell whether it's Czar or Shirish. But if the person comes over and hugs me, I know it's my son.

Shirish Kunder earns Farah Khan's praise as a father
Farah concluded by expressing deep appreciation for Shirish Kunder's role in their family.
She said that over the years she has come to value him not just as her husband but also as an exceptional father and someone who keeps the household running smoothly.She said, “When you want something very badly, how much is our need when we want something? When we get it… Uski value alag cheezo mein hoti hai. I value Shirish in other things now, as a father, as a person who looks after our whole family, woh saari cheeze. I cannot do without him.

I often joke with him, 'If you leave with the kids, who will fix my Wi-Fi?' Our home simply cannot function without Shirish. He's a wonderful father.")Farah also credited him for playing a major role in their children's education. She revealed that many people ask who guided them through university admissions, but according to her, the answer has always been the same. “I said ‘no their father was their counsellor.’” She added that Shirish's guidance and dedication helped their children secure admission to prestigious universities, making him an indispensable part of their family's journey.On the work front, Farah Khan's last directorial film was 'Happy New Year'.
