A 28-year-old man allegedly died by suicide while on a video call with his girlfriend in Faridabad on Sunday evening, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Nikhil, a resident of Jawahar Colony in Faridabad, officers said. According to police, he had been in a relationship for about five years with a woman from Sanjay Colony, and the couple had planned to get married. Their families had also discussed the proposal.
However, police said the woman had recently been refusing to marry Nikhil, which had reportedly caused him significant mental distress.
Around 5 pm on Sunday, Nikhil first exchanged messages with her on WhatsApp and then made a video call. During the call, he allegedly hanged himself while on camera. The woman, who witnessed the act, immediately alerted Nikhil’s friends.
When his friends reached his house, they found him hanging from a noose inside his room. He was alone at home at the time. His father had passed away a few years ago, and his mother was in Ujjain, police said.
After being informed, police arrived at the scene, took the body into custody and sent it to Badshah Khan hospital for post-mortem, an officer said.
A detailed investigation into the incident is underway, a senior police officer added.
