Farmer killed after speeding oil tanker rams car

Mohali: A 39-year-old farmer was killed when a speeding oil tanker collided head-on with his car on the Landran-Banur road on Thursday night. The tanker driver fled from the scene after abandoning the vehicle, prompting police to launch a search to trace him.The deceased is Mandeep Singh, a resident of Raipur Kalan. Police said he was driving his Verna car towards Saneta at around 8pm when the accident occurred near the Jio petrol pump on the Landran-Banur road.Investigating officer ASI Balbir Singh said Mandeep’s brother, Sandeep Singh, was following him on a scooter at the time of the incident. A speeding oil tanker coming from Banur allegedly rammed into Mandeep’s car head-on, leaving him critically injured.He was immediately rushed to the Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. Police said Mandeep Singh was engaged in farming and was on his way home when the accident took place.Police have impounded the oil tanker and registered a case against the unidentified driver. CCTV footage from cameras installed near the accident site is being examined.
