Thimma Reddy was under a night watch at his farmlands when a herd of wild jumbos suddenly attacked him and killed him on the spot
Tirupati: A 65-year-old farmer was killed in an attack by a group of wild tuskers near Devineni Indlu village in Pakala mandal at Tirupati district. The deceased was identified as B Thimma Reddy, a resident of Pallagutta Palli in Pakala mandal.According to the Pakala police, Thimma Reddy was under a night watch at his farmlands when a herd of wild jumbos suddenly attacked him and killed him on the spot. Pakala police, along with forest department personnel, rushed to the spot and shifted Thimma Reddy’s body for postmortem.Pakala police registered a case and cautioned locals not to venture out alone, especially during late hours, owing to the movement of tuskers in the region.
Forest dept officials assured that they will initiate measures to drive the tuskers back into their original habitat.Deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan expressed anguish over the incident and extended his condolences to the farmer’s family members.Pawan Kalyan said tragic encounters with elephants continued to occur despite the state forest department’s continuous efforts to track elephant movements and alert local communities promptly.
To provide immediate relief to the victim’s family, he directed the district administration and forest department officials to visit the grieving household, offer deep reassurances, and ensure that ex gratia financial compensation was disbursed without any delay.
