Ghaziabad Sisters’ Suicide: Phones Sold, Korean Content, Complex Family Setup Under Police Lens

The investigation into the alleged suicide case of three minor sisters in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghaziabad has revealed new details. Their father, Chetan Kumar, has three wives – Sujata, Heena and Tina – who are biological sisters. Sujata is Nishika’s mother, while Heena is the mother of Prachi and Pakhi. Police said the three girls appeared more attached to their father and addressed only him in their suicide note, without mentioning their mothers.

Police said the girls were under severe mental stress after their father, Chetan Kumar, took away their mobile phones and sold them to pay electricity bills, citing their excessive consumption of Korean content.

Kumar, a stock broker, was reportedly in Rs 2 crore debt and struggling to run the family.

What happened that night

Police said the sisters managed to take their mother’s mobile phone on the night of the incident. However, they could not access the Korean apps and content they wanted to watch.

The girls – Nishika, 16; Prachi, 14; and Pakhi, 12 – were unable to play online games or speak to their Korean friends. Forensic teams said no Korean content app was found on the mother’s phone.

Fingerprints from the handwritten note and messages have been sent for forensic examination. The report is awaited.

Cyber crime teams are tracing the buyers of the sold mobile phones through IMEI numbers to retrieve data from the Korean apps.

A nine-page pocket diary recovered from the sisters’ room points to an intense attachment to Korean culture and content, along with alleged family discord, according to preliminary findings.

Police said the case is being treated as a suicide. The probe is focused on verifying the father’s claims about alleged online gaming obsession and examining all related aspects, including family circumstances.

Father’s 2015 live-in partner suicide

The three sisters were cremated at Delhi’s Nigam Bodh Ghat on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, adding new dimensions to the investigation, police said the girls’ father, Chetan Kumar, had earlier been linked to another suicide case in 2015 involving his live-in partner. She died after falling from the roof of a flat in Rajendra Nagar Colony under the Sahibabad police station area.

DCP (Trans Hindon) Nimish Patil said the death was initially treated as suspicious but later declared a suicide after investigation. He added there is no evidence at present linking that case to the deaths of the three sisters.
