FDA inspection at the college canteen
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Saturday suspended the licence of a canteen at a prominent engineering college following a surprise inspection.FDA assistant commissioner (food) Dayanand Patil stated that the inspection was conducted on Friday after students filed formal complaints.“The inspection revealed several irregularities and lapses, including the storage of expired spices and food ingredients. We also recovered harmful artificial food colors and observed generally unhygienic conditions,” Patil said. All objectionable items were seized and destroyed onsite.
To support their complaint, students had submitted video evidence to the FDA showing cockroaches and larvae in the food served at the canteen. This action follows a similar raid on July 2, when FDA teams inspected fruit juice centers in the Paithan Gate area.“At these establishments, expired stocks of pasteurised homogenised toned milk and Alphonso mango pulp were being used to prepare juices. We also discovered that ‘frozen dessert’ was being passed off as actual ice cream,” Patil added. The contaminated stock was destroyed, and the FDA is currently pursuing legal action based on the inspection reports. The FDA has warned that inspections will continue across the city to ensure establishments adhere to safety and hygiene standards.
