FDCI and India Art Fair present textile showcase at crafts museum

As part of the lead-up to National Handloom Day 2025, the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), in collaboration with the India Art Fair’s Young Collectors’ Programme, opened an exhibition titled “Re-imagining A Way Back to Us: Contemporary Indigenous Fashion and Textiles in India.” The exhibition is being held at the Innovation Gallery and Textile Gallery II of the National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy, New Delhi.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Neelam Shammi Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles. Also present were senior officials from the Ministry of Textiles including Amrit Raj, Shri Rohit Kansal, Dr M Beena, Asit Gopal, Padmini Singla, Shubhra, Tanu Kashyap, Dr Noopur Anand and Col Manoj Rana. Curated by Sunil Sethi for the Textile Gallery and Sreyansi Singh for the Innovation Gallery, the exhibition brings together the work of design labels from across India. These include 2112 Saldon (Ladakh), 7Weaves (Assam), Boito (Odisha), Bun.Kar Bihar (Bihar), Erode (Tamil Nadu), Johargram (Jharkhand), Kiniho (Meghalaya), and Tega Collective in collaboration with Sandur Kushala Kala Kendra (Karnataka).

According to Sunil Sethi, Chairman of FDCI, the exhibition is intended to highlight the evolving language of Indian textiles, bringing stories of regional artisans into the spotlight. He said the aim is to connect craft with innovation and create opportunities for cultural dialogue. Jaya Asokan, Fair Director of India Art Fair, also emphasised the importance of collaboration between institutions in celebrating and promoting indigenous fashion. The exhibition opened on August 1, 2025 and is on view at the National Crafts Museum & Hastkala Academy, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.
