A cool drinks vendor leapt off a moving train and got injured after a travelling ticket examiner (TTE) allegedly threatened him with legal action for travelling without a ticket near Tanur in Malappuram district of Kerala on Tuesday (September 9, 2025) night.

Ashkar from Pandimuttam in Nannambra panchayat has been admitted to Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, with serious injuries.

Ashkar, who was selling cool drinks on the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express, was asked by the TTE to produce a ticket. When he failed to do so, the TTE allegedly warned him of legal action. Ashkar then reportedly jumped from the moving train.

Ashkar was found seriously injured near a culvert at Chirakkal, Tanur, and rushed to a hospital at Parappanangadi. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later shifted to Kozhikode MCH.
