West Bengal has set a new benchmark in voter participation during the 2026 elections. According to available data, not only has the voting percentage seen a significant rise compared to 2021, but the total number of votes cast has also increased substantially.

2021 vs 2026: What the Data Shows

In 2021, across two phases, there were approximately 73.4 million registered voters, out of which around 60.4 million cast their votes. This translated into a voter turnout of about 82.3%.

In contrast, in 2026, the total number of registered voters declined to around 68.2 million. Despite this drop, the number of people who voted increased to nearly 63.4 million. The overall voter turnout surged to an impressive 92.94%, marking a historic jump.

Interestingly, even though there were about 5.1 million fewer registered voters in 2026 compared to 2021, the total votes cast increased by approximately 3.017 million.

Phase-wise Highlights

Phase 1: Despite a decline in the number of registered voters, over 2.1 million additional votes were cast compared to 2021.

Phase 2: Similarly, more than 900,000 extra votes were recorded despite a reduced voter base.

Comparison with 2024 Lok Sabha Elections

In the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, voter turnout in West Bengal stood at around 79-80%. In 2026, this figure jumped to over 92%, reflecting an increase of nearly 13 percentage points.

It should be noted that these figures are provisional. Final numbers will see changes after counting concludes, as service voters and postal ballots are yet to be fully accounted for.
