USA romped to a 2-0 win over Australia in their FIFA World Cup 2026 Group D encounter at the Seattle Stadium, USA on Saturday to continue their perfect start to the quadrennial spectacle with two wins in their first two games.
An own goal from Cameron Burgess and a header from Alex Freeman gave Mauricio Pochettino and Co. their second win of the tournament.
USA raced to an early advantage as they worked the ball well into a position of danger exploiting the left channel before crossing the ball in for the striker to tap the ball home, but Aussie defender Burgess got to the end of it first, only to find the back of his own net.
Freeman doubled USA’s lead as he headed the ball into the net after a deflection came his way, with the goalie is left covering his tracks after having jumped to the right in anticipation of the initial shot, which eventually floated into the path of Freeman following a deflection off the Australian defence. The linesman’s flag went up, but VAR intervened to overturn the decision to chalk the strike and the hosts extended their lead.
