At Under-20 level, however, they have met twice since 2013. Uzbekistan won one of those encounters, while the other finished in a draw.

Portugal have generally enjoyed success against teams from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), including a memorable 7-0 victory over North Korea at the 2010 World Cup. Yet they are winless in their last two World Cup matches against Asian opposition, with their 2-1 defeat to South Korea in 2022 serving as a reminder against complacency.
