A 15-year-old boy lost his life in a tragic fall in West Bengaluru while trying to film an Instagram reel. Nishanth H, a Class 10 student who had recently finished his CBSE board exams, died after falling from a height on Friday evening at an abandoned resort building in D Group Layout. The teenager and his friends had chosen the deserted property as a backdrop to shoot videos for social media.

The Annapoorneshwarinagar police have registered a case of unnatural death and said the attempt to create viral social media content played a key role in the tragedy. “The attempt to create social media content ultimately led to the fatal fall. The boys had entered the premises after the security guard’s shift had ended, seeking a high-risk location to capture unique footage for their followers," an investigating officer told News18 Kannada.

Unauthorized Entry Into Abandoned Property

Nishanth and two of his friends reportedly entered the vacant property after 5:30 PM. The building has been caught in legal disputes for nearly 20 years. It was surrounded by a compound wall, but the boys managed to squeeze through a narrow gap to gain entry. After getting inside, Nishanth climbed onto the roof of an old tennis court structure to capture a better angle for the video.

The roof was partly covered with polycarbonate sheets that were meant for lighting and were not designed to bear weight. His friends noticed the danger from the ground and shouted at him to come down. However, their warnings came too late. As Nishanth attempted to move, the fragile sheet broke and he fell about 40 feet to the ground.

Parents Donate Eyes After Tragedy

The fall caused severe head injuries. His friends rushed him to a nearby hospital, but doctors declared that he was brought dead on arrival. Nishanth was the elder son of Harsha, a civil contractor. Despite their deep grief, his parents chose to donate his eyes, giving others the gift of sight.

Police have used the incident to warn parents and teenagers about the dangers of chasing social media fame. They said trespassing into abandoned buildings and performing risky stunts for online attention can lead to devastating consequences. Authorities are now urging parents to monitor social media activities closely to prevent similar tragedies in the city.
