FIR filed against six in Buxar murder case

Buxar: Six people on Tuesday were named in an FIR filed in connection with the murder of one Ramakant Pathak (60), who was shot dead in a firing incident near Rasen village under Rajpur police station area of the district on Monday night, police said.

Another person, Vijay Shankar Chaubey, sustained serious injuries in the attack.Police said around 10 rounds were fired in the incident. Eight empty cartridges and two misfired bullets were recovered during spot inspection.According to police, Ramakant, a resident of Mohanpur village under Dhansoi police station area of the district died on the spot, while Vijay, currently undergoing treatment at Sadar Hospital Buxar was shot in the leg while attempting to flee.

In his statement, Vijay alleged that the attackers belonged to the family of the victims of Ahiyapur triple murder case and carried out the assault as an act of revenge. He told police that Ramakant, his relative, had come to Rasen village and the two were taking a walk towards nearby fields on Monday evening when around six armed men, allegedly hiding near a canal, opened indiscriminate fire.Buxar SP Shubham Arya said he is personally supervising the investigation.

“It is too early to draw conclusions. All angles are being examined and appropriate action will follow,” he said.On May 24 this year, three cousins were shot dead in Ahiyapur village under Rajpur police station of the district following a dispute over sand and gravel storage. Several accused, including a former district board vice-chairman and his brother, are currently in jail in this connection.Rajpur SHO, Niwas Kumar, said an FIR has been registered against six people based on Vijay’s statement. The body of Ramakant was handed over to the family after postmortem. Police have also taken a relative of a key witness into custody for questioning.
