A fire broke out in the engine of the Humsafar Express train when it was crossing Channapatna taluk in Ramanagara district of Karnataka, on Thursday. The train, which was travelling from Mysuru to Udaipur via Bengaluru, was halted immediately after a spark was detected in the engine.
The quick action of railway personnel, and emergency services, averted a major mishap, with the train remaining stationary for around 30 minutes while fire and emergency services from Channapatna arrived at the scene and brought the fire under control. No injuries were reported, and the passengers were not affected.
A replacement engine was arranged to allow the train to continue its journey. Officials from the Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police (GRP) also reached the spot and reviewed the situation.
Railway Superintendent of Police said, “Spark was noticed in the engine of Humsafar Express from Mysore to Udaipur. It was dealt with by loco, GRP. Engine was changed and it has resumed its journey. We have not received any complaint to investigate. Must be a technical issue.”
Authorities have not registered a case and believe the incident to be the result of a technical fault.
