The Department of Fire and Emergency Services conducted a full-fledged fire drill at Nexus Mall here on Thursday as part of its preparedness programme and in compliance with directions from higher authorities.
The drill commenced around 9.30 a.m. and lasted for over an hour, during which fire personnel demonstrated their readiness to tackle fire accidents and other emergency situations. The exercise was also aimed at creating public awareness about disaster response procedures and educating people on how they can assist during emergencies.
Around 50 personnel from the Fire and Emergency Services Department participated in the drill, which also served to test the efficiency of firefighting and rescue equipment used during emergencies.
During the exercise, the personnel demonstrated fire extinguishing techniques, evacuation of people trapped inside the building, rescue operations, and first-aid measures for the injured. They also showcased the safe shifting of injured persons on stretchers and their transportation to hospitals in ambulances for further treatment.
Regional Fire Officer Ranganath, District Fire Officer K.P. Gururaj, and K.G. Raju coordinated the mock drill.
