A large number of plastic pipes belonging to manufacturing company L&T, which were meant for infrastructure works in the capital Amaravati, were gutted in a fire accident on Wednesday. The incident happened on the seed access road at Velagapudi, where the material was stocked. Six fire tenders rushed to the spot and doused the flames.

Director General of Fire Services P. Venkata Ramana told the media that the fire was allegedly caused due to a burning cigarette butt or ignition of nearby dry grass. The fire quickly spread to the pipes and it took some time to douse the flames as the pipes were made of PVC, which kept them raging. The pipes were nearly six-years old, he said, suggesting that negligence caused the accident.
Amaravati Development Corporation Limited CMD D. Lakshmiparthasarathy Bhasker and other officials inspected the spot. Meanwhile, Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha ordered an inquiry to determine wether it was an accident or a conspiracy.
