Panic gripped Uttar Pradesh’s Hardoi district on Saturday after a massive fire broke out at the Kirti Krishna Bal Chikitsalaya, a private children’s hospital located on Nagheta Road in the Kotwali area. The fire triggered chaos inside the hospital campus, forcing an urgent evacuation of the admitted children.

Meanwhile, news agency PTI shared a video showing the dramatic rescue where hospital staff and locals using sarees tied together as makeshift ropes lowered children to safety from the hospital building, even as thick smoke poured out of the premises.

A large number of family members were seen clinging to the hospital’s gallery railings in panic as the fire broke out. Attendants desperately tried to escape, with some using bamboo ladders to help people trapped inside and all of these events happened before the fire brigade even arrived.

Child patients admitted at the hospital were also evacuated. Witnesses said thick smoke quickly filled the hospital’s interiors, adding to the chaos.

The blaze, which started around 4 pm, sent plumes of smoke billowing over the area, according to a separate report by Navbharat Times. Police teams from the city’s Kotwali station and the fire brigade rushed to the spot, with firefighting efforts continuing late into the evening. Officials told the outlet that more than two dozen children have been evacuated so far and shifted to other hospitals.

The cause of the fire remains unknown, even as authorities scramble to bring the situation under control.
