Agra: A day after clashes in Kasganj and tension in Agra on the occasion of Ambedkar Jayanti, FIRs have been filed in both districts as police stepped up surveillance to maintain law and order.In Agra, protests broke out on Wednesday, a day after a few youths carrying blue flags climbed atop Parshuram Chowk in the Sikandra police station area.
The site, having a structure symbolising a weapon associated with Lord Parshuram, is considered a matter of public faith.Police later brought the situation under control. Sources told TOI that an FIR has been registered at Sikandra police station under relevant sections of the BNS. Agra ACP Mayank Tiwari said, “The matter has been taken into cognisance, and an FIR has been filed. The accused are being identified, and further action will be taken.
CCTV footage of the area is also being examined.”Meanwhile, in Kasganj, two FIRs have been registered against 36 named individuals and 15 unidentified persons at Sahawar police station in connection with unrest during an Ambedkar Jayanti procession on Tuesday evening.According to the FIR lodged by Sahawar SHO Govind Ballabh Sharma, when the procession reached a locality inhabited by a particular community, people allegedly began pelting stones from rooftops. The mob also scuffled with the police, during which the SHO’s uniform was torn. At least three people, including a police personnel, were injured in the incident.Kasganj SP OP Singh told TOI, “At least 36 named and 15 unidentified persons have been booked in the FIR, and 23 people have been taken into custody under sections related to rioting (BNS 191), among others.”
